Membership Spotlight: Fine Line Marine Electric

In December, we had the privilege of sitting down with SACC Florida’s first-ever Corporate Member, Fine Line Marine Electric, represented by its Founder and Operations Manager, Petrus Sundvall. Originally from Kalmar, Sweden, Petrus first came to Fort Lauderdale, also known as the yachting capital of the world, in 2001 during a global sailing expedition. Captivated by the area, he decided to stay and put down roots.

Upon his arrival in Fort Lauderdale, Petrus began taking day jobs on yachts, handling a variety of tasks as needed. Thanks to his engineering expertise and a Swedish captain’s license, he quickly transitioned into more technical roles, ultimately working as a yacht captain until 2008. While being a captain offered financial stability, Petrus sought a career that combined his technical skills with his passion for problem-solving. This led him to establish Fine Line Marine Electric in 2010.

Starting a business during a recession was seen as a bold move, but Petrus believes this timing played a significant role in the company’s success. Today, the company employs 17 people and is regarded as one of the leading marine electrical companies in Fort Lauderdale, recognized for its high standards and good reputation within the industry. Fine Line Marine Electric specializes in advanced electrical solutions for mega yachts, commercial vessels, and cruise ships. Their expertise encompasses control and navigation systems, shore power, automation, underwater lighting, and comprehensive lighting refits, along with the design and installation of complex electrical systems. This year, the company expanded further by entering the yacht parts market and through the acquisition of Dedicated Marine Electric. They are now authorized dealers for renowned brands like Lutron and Crestron, offering premium lighting solutions tailored to the unique needs of yachts.

For Petrus, the most rewarding aspect of his work is the diversity of challenges he encounters. Yachts, which are built all over the world, often come with unique systems and complex problems. Petrus thrives on solving these puzzles, particularly when he can resolve issues that have stumped other engineers. Whether it involves upgrading outdated systems with modern technology or maintaining classic vessels, each project brings new challenges and opportunities for innovation.

Fine Line Marine Electric holds a special place within SACC Florida as the organization’s first Corporate Member.  Petrus was also part of supporting the new establishment of the Chamber in Fort Lauderdale and continues to be an active board member. For him, involvement in the chamber is a natural decision, providing valuable connections within the Swedish community and opportunities to give back.
